WHAT IS A Public Bicycle System?First implemented in Europe, a public bicycle system is transportation by bicycle in an urban setting. A rider locates a Portland Bike Co bike station, selects a bike number and inserts payment into the Station Kiosk, and cycles to their destination. Upon arrival at their destination, the rider will put the bike in a locked rack and the Station Kiosk will log return and refund deposit fee. view Public Bicycle System Flow Chart WHAT IS NEOBIKES?NEOBIKES is uniquely qualified to implement and operate a "shared" bicycle system project. They are first and foremost a bike transportation company. Their primary goal is to offer a "best of breed system" along with its daily management in order to provide a leading edge solution which will meet the safety, reliability and ease of use considerations of daily users. Moreover, they have partnered with cycling mobility experts to ensure that they develop a model that meets the specific needs of the community. In addition to developing programs in other cities, NEOBIKES is also offering a bike transportation solution to trails, parks, communities and companies. WHY the Northwest?Portland, Oregon has been recognized by The League of American Bicyclists as a gold-level city for their bicycle friendliness through education, enforcement, encouragement, engineering and evaluation. Portland's Community program responded to the designation with a team committed to earning the ultimate distinction, platinum status, within five years. They have been voted "Best Overall City for Bicycling in North America" four times by Bicycling Magazine. And, Portland's dedication to cycling has proven to other cities that they can make a difference in our environment. "Greenhouse gas emissions have decreased over the last four years to levels lower than in 1990 in Portland, the only major urban area to see a decline while national levels have risen more than 17 percent." source: Bicycling, March 2006. view Seattle's Bicycle Master Plan, http://www.seattle.gov/Transportation/bikemaster.htm view Portland's Bicycle Master Plan, http://www.portlandonline.com/auditor/index.cfm?&a=38510&c=31608 |
